Cal Ripken Baseball has FOUR tournament trails for teams in the 9 yr old, 10 yr old, 11 yr old, and 12 yr old Divisions. The 10, 11, and 12 yr old tournaments culminate with the Cal Ripken World Series. The 9 yr olds go as far as Regionals. 9 yr olds may play on a 10 yr old team and 11 yr olds may play on a 12 yr old team.

To reach the World Series, teams must advance through the District, State, and Regional Tournaments. These Tournaments are all double-elimination.

This year the East Ohio Districts will be held at Youngstown Mill Creek for all 4 Cal Ripken Divisions. The East Ohio District Tournament is scheduled to start Friday July 1, and we plan on crowning a Champion Sunday July 3.

We are expecting teams from Fairfield County and Muskingum County. Depending on number of teams in any Division, the local teams from Youngstown and the WAC may begin bracket play on Thursday June 30. That has yet to be determined. Either way, plan on playing early in the day on any given day. We will be scheduling up to 7 games per field per day. You may play 2 games in any given day. Plan on getting Friday July 1 off work, and we will let every one know about Thurs. June 30 as soon as possible.

This year the East will send the Champions and Runner-ups in each Division to the State Championship Tournament the weekend of July 8-10 in Fairfield, OH (just outside Cincy). The States will be a 4 team double elimination with the East Champs, East Runner-ups, West Champs, and Host teams competing in Each age Division.

The cost is $200 per team payable to Youngstown Mill Creek Jr. Baseball for the East Districts. This team fee is in lieu of the parents and fans being charged gate fees that would range from a $5 day pass to a $15-$20 tournament pass.

If you advance to State, another $200 team fee is due the host site, but again, there will be no gate charges. Do the math, and the $200 fee is a bargain compared to gate fees. All local Leagues in the WAC are free to enter their own community teams, two smaller community leagues may combine to form a tournament team, or make their players eligible for a "County" team.

Please- you MUST arrange any of these scenarios through the WAC so we may plan accordingly. All players must be rostered on a WAC regular season team.

Any League or team is permitted to fund raise or secure sponsorships to help defray the cost of tournament competition. Please communicate with your appropriate League President or Board any fund raising and or sponsorship plans to make sure you are following and abiding by any league policy or by-law. The sponsor names may appear on the team jerseys.

Each and every coach, managers and assistants, MUST complete and pass the Babe Ruth Coaching Certification and have their certificate or ID Card available for inspection. No exceptions. In Ohio, we allow 4 total coaches in the Cal Ripken Tournaments only. At Regionals and beyond, only 3 coaches are permitted.

All players and coaches must wear the Cal Ripken patch on their left shoulder. If wearing vest type jerseys, the patch must be on the upper left chest. These patches must be purchased by each team/league, and are available from the WAC at $1.50 each. Please order these at least 10 - 14 days before the tournament so you can receice them in time. Coaches are to be in team uniform, however, for this year we will allow Cal Ripken coaches to wear Kahki type dress shorts or pants with the MATCHING team jersey and cap. All coaches MUST have matching pants. NO jeans shorts or those baggy things that hang down to the mid calf. We WILL send you home or to the local store to get appropriate pants if you push the envelope on this. Of course all coaches may be in complete uniform if you choose. We must look respectable. Once a team makes Regionals FULL uniform, including baseball pants for ALL coaches is required.

Each team must present to each Tournament Director a team packet that includes (per page 23 of your Babe Ruth Rule Book):

1. Birth Certificate for each player, or the Babe Ruth Player ID Card that can be purchsed for $1.50 each from the WAC. These cards are good for the life of the player and are much cheaper that the $20 that the State and County over charge for a birth certificate.
2. Your Leagues' ACORD Accident and Liability Insurance certificate
3. Official Tournamnent Team roster as electronically submitted to Babe Ruth League, Inc. The WAC will need your tournament team roster at least a week before the Tournament starts and we will supply this to you.
4. Letter of Tournament Eligibility - The WAC will supply this to you. 5. Consent for treatment form for each player. We will make this available online to you.
6. A color team photo in electronic and print format.
7. Babe Ruth Coaching Certificate or ID Card for EVERY coach.
Get yourself a cheap notebook and plastic page protectors for all these documents and keep it with you at all times. If you have any additional questions call Dave Harries at 330-442-9937, but email is much better at dharries55@gmail.com. If you specific questions relating the the East Ohio Districts being hosted by Millcreek, please direct calls to Dave Stauffer at 330-397-8025 or email at dstauffer@jewishyoungstown.org.
